VII Compulsory Activities

1、Research Work and Social Practicum (2 credits)

Graduate students must take part in at least one research work and social practicum. As for research work, it could be research project, writing project application, academic certificate, research report, patent application, copyrights of software. Social practicum shall be arranged by students, their supervisors or the university and it shall be completed in the summer or winter vacation. Graduate students must submit their research work and social practicum report to their supervisors for evaluation and will obtain 2 credits when they pass the evaluation.

2、Academic Activities (1 credit)

Graduate students must take part in at least 3 academic activities. Academic activities include giving academic lecture, attending academic conference and lecture and all kinds of seminars. Graduate students must fill in the graduate students academic activities participation report form and submit one report to their supervisors for evaluation and will obtain 1 credit when they pass the evaluation.

VIII Thesis Writing and Thesis Defense

1、Thesis Proposal Defense

Graduate students must write their thesis proposal meticulously under the supervision of their superiors. The thesis proposal should include literature review, rationale, research content, research methodology, research condition (funding and equipments), expected research results and potential problems. The proposal must be aligned with the research directions. Graduate students shall read a certain number of academic literatures, write a proposal with over 4000 words and present their proposals at the proposal defense. The proposal defense committee (composed of 3 professors, 1 should be the member of degree evaluation committee) shall be responsible for the evaluation of students’ proposals. The proposal defense will be conducted before the fifth term.

2、Mid-term Inspection of Thesis Writing

The purpose of the mid-term inspection is to check the progress of students’ thesis writing, their potential problems and solutions, and the possibility of finishing the thesis on time. Students will be allowed to continue writing their thesis after passing the mid-term inspection. The mid-term inspection will be conducted before the fifth term.

3、Thesis Writing

Graduate students shall write their thesis in according with “Master Degree Conferment Regulations of Hunan Institute of Science and Technology” and “Thesis Writing Standards of Hunan Institute of Science and Technology” and submit their thesis to peer expert review. Their thesis must first state their rationale and academic significance of their study or its impact on social development, cultural progress or national economic development. The thesis must give a comprehensive literature review of studies conducted at both home and abroad and highlight the unique feature of its own and put forward some innovative research findings.

4、Thesis Defense

Graduate students shall study and work according to the training plan, reach the requirement of credits, complete thesis writing and meet all the relevant requirements, then they will be eligible for applying for thesis review, thesis defense and the degree conferment, which must follow the rules of “Master Degree Conferment Regulations of Hunan Institute of Science and Technology”.

Graduate students are required to publish at least one academic article in SCI or EI journals (once they get the official acceptance notice it will be considered as published) as the first author (or co-author with their supervisors, their supervisors as the first author, and students the second author)

IX Annual Evaluation and Selection

At the end of each academic year, graduate students will be evaluated according to “Methods of Annual Evaluation of Graduate Students in Hunan Institute of Science and Technology” in terms of ethics, intelligence, and physical education. The evaluation results are divided into four categories: Excellent, Good, Pass, Fail, which will be recorded into their archives and be used as selection criteria for scholarship and archive management. Only when graduate students pass the annual evaluation can they proceed with their study.

his program aims to train the engineering talents who have solid fundamental theory and systematic expertise in Information Technology and are well developed morally, intellectually and physically. Graduates will be qualified in scientific research, teaching and management in Information Technology industry.
