【School System and Semesters】

There are two semesters in one academic year inHunan Institute of Science and Technology(HNIST): Fall semester and Spring semester. Fall semester is the beginning of each school year, usually from early September to mid-January of the next year. Spring semester usually starts from late February to mid-July. In HNIST, there is summer vacation and winter vacation per year. Summer vacation is normally two months (July and August), and winter vacation is about four weeks, with the traditional Chinese Spring Festival holiday included.

【Application Time】

HNIST is currently recruiting overseas students only in September.The acceptance time of the application materials is April 1st to April 30^theach year.Please apply online through the international student service system of Hunan Institute of Science and Technology（https://hnist.at0086.cn/StuApplication/Login.aspx）

【Basic requirements for application】

1.Applicants should be 18 years of age or older beforeMay30thin the very year;

2.Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens who hold valid ordinary passport of a foreign country;

3.Good health and proper behavior are required. Applicants are also required to have a general high school diploma.

4.Applicants who apply for undergraduate education are required to have reached the level of HSK4, and those who have not reached the level of HSK4 should apply for preparatory courses.

Applicants who apply forpostgraduate education are required to have reachedthe level of HSK4 for majors taught in Chinese, and those who have not reached the level of HSK4should apply for preparatory courses.For Majors taught in English, applicants come from non-English speaking countries need to pass the English proficiency test held by HNIST.

【ProgramsIntroduction】

1.Degree Program

Bachelor degree program lasts4years. Students can get graduation certificate on the condition that they finish all required courses and pass their thesis defense. They will be awarded bachelor degree if they fulfill the course requirements. Students would study together with Chinese students.

Masterdegree program lasts2-3years. Students can get graduation certificate on the condition that they finish all required courses and pass their thesis defense. They will be awardedMasterdegree if they fulfill the course requirements. Students would study together with Chinese students.

2.Non-degree program

（1）Preparatory courses foracademic degreeeducation

The Chinese language study period for the studentswithzero-basedChinese or below the required levelwhich lasts 1 year at least，or can be extended according to the situation. Students can enter theacademic degreeeducation after finish all the language courses and get the HSK certificate.

（2）Chinese language courses

In accordance with the Chinese level of overseas students, Chinese language courses are offered at different levels, and it lasts 1 year. Students will be issued the certificate of completion after finish all the courses and pass the curriculum assessment.

【Application Documents】

All application documents must be in Chinese or English. If there are non-Chinese or non-English materials, please provide the translation documents and notarization documents.

3.Ascanningcopy of your highest diploma and transcript( the exchangestudents areadditionalrequired the certificate of student statusfrom your college).

4.Physical Examination Record for Foreigner at an Entry-Exit Quarantine Bureau in the recent3months. (including blood report)

5.A non-criminal certificate issued by relevant departments.(Issued within 3 months)

6.Recommendation letters fromtwodifferent professors or authorities.(if you study for a degree, including preparatory course)

7.CurriculumVitae. (including youre-mail address and phone number)

8.Study plan.

9.2 photos as the passport photoin the recent 6 monthsand e-copy.

10.Certification of the level of Chinese proficiency (important). HSK4for undergraduate education, HSK5 forpostgraduate education.

11.Proof of funds

Applicants for degree education must provide 6-month frozen funds equivalent to US $10,000, and thebank statements must be dated within the last 30 days.

1) Bank statements should be issued by name of applicant, or

2) by name of applicant's guardian (ex. your parents). Proofdocumentsfor the relationship between guardian and applicant and notarized documents shall be provided.

Applicantswhoarestudying in a formalcollegein Chinaneed additional documents as follows：

12.A transfer consent letter from international affairs office of current college (stamped with the official seal).

13.Scanningcopies of valid visa or residence permit in China.

【Visa】

Please take“Admission Notice”(electronic printed version),“Confirmation Formfor Study in China(JW202/201 form)”or “Information Form for Foreign Students'Short-term Visit”(electronic printed version)“Physical Examination Record for Foreigner”(original documents) to Chinese Embassy (Consulate) and apply for an X1 or X2 visa to study in China.

【Medical Insurance】

According to the regulation of Chinese Ministry of Education, overseas students who study in China must buy medical insurance in China. Students can pay insurance purchase fees before they are reported or reported on the registration day. The premium would be 800 Yuan/year. Students who do not have required medical insurance would be refused registration.

【Tuition Fee】

Except when specifically pointed out, tuition fee for each major is shown as follows:

The tuition fee is paid in accordance with the academic year and charged at RMB. Students who do not pay the full amount of tuition on time would not be registered.

【Scholarship】

1.Scholarship for Chinese Language Study: To improve the MOU between partner schools, HNIST would like to provide full scholarship (free tuition fee) to 15- 20 of the students ofoverseaspartner schools for the first year of their Preparatory Chinese language study. The individual applicants would be given a partial percentage tuition scholarship according to the final education GPA.

2.Scholarship foracademic degree education: HNISTgrant scholarship 40%up to 100%to the students of partner schools furthering their degree according to their performance and grade. Theschoolwill consider students GPAof Grade 12 (Mathayom 6) for the 1^st-year-schorlarship inHNISTas follows:

- GPA 4.0-5.0 will be provided 100% scholarship;

- GPA 3.0-3.99will be provided 80% scholarship;

- GPA 2.0-2.99will be provided 60% scholarship;

- GPA 1.0-1.99will be provided 40% scholarship.

【Accommodation】

Overseas students' accommodation is arranged by the school. In principle, the students are not allowed to accommodate outside school.
