Campus News In the golden autumn season filled with the fragrance of osmanthus, youth begins its glorious chapter without regret. On the morning of September 28, the 2025 Freshman Military Training Summary and Opening Ceremony of Hunan Institute of Science and Technology (HNIST) was held at the South Campus athletic field. University leaders including Zhang Guoyun, Zeng Xiangjun, Xie Guihui, Xu Xiaoli, Xu Zhenxiang, Tang Xiaohong, Ding Yuejiao, Liu Changhui, and Hu Wenjing attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Xu Zhenxiang, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President.

"All rise for the national flag and anthem!" With the solemn and stirring national anthem, the freshman military training summary ceremony officially commenced. At the ceremony, spirited performances of capture-the-enemy boxing, bayonet drills, and dagger drills by the instructors were showcased in sequence. The cheerleading performance by the School of Physical Education was equally impressive, adding vitality to the event. Subsequently, the freshmen marched past the rostrum in orderly formation to the rhythm of the march music, demonstrating the results of their military training and their high spirits as they embarked on a new journey of growth.

Zhang Guoyun, Secretary of the Party Committee, pinned the university badge on a freshman representative. The gleaming badge symbolizes the students’ formal identity as members of HNIST and further inspires all teachers and students to strive wholeheartedly for excellence and write their own brilliant life chapters.

President Zeng Xiangjun, on behalf of all faculty and students, extended a warm welcome and heartfelt wishes to over 5,000 undergraduate, postgraduate, and international students of the Class of 2025. He noted that the world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century, with a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation flourishing. Every student is a witness, participant, and future creator of this great era. Zeng Xiangjun encouraged the freshmen to build a solid foundation for success through diligent accumulation, strengthen their professional expertise, enhance comprehensive qualities, and provide strong support for soaring to greater heights; to bravely explore and ignite the fire of innovation, integrate personal ideals into the broader context of national development, realize their value through serving society, and become "wind-catchers" who understand the times and shoulder responsibilities; to cultivate virtue and character, nurture the foundation for standing in the world, and actively engage with society and reality while delving into their majors. While striving to become "professional experts," they should also grow into well-rounded individuals with warmth, integrity, and a sense of responsibility in the new era. Zeng Xiangjun urged the students to uphold the university motto "Pursuing Perfection and Exploring Truth," let faith guide their direction, respond to the times with hard work, warm the world with kindness, shoulder responsibilities in the Chinese path to modernization, and write a youthful chapter worthy of themselves, their families and country, and the great era!

She encouraged them not to be mere replicators of "standard answers" but to become discoverers of "new questions." Huang Dujia, a student from the School of Artificial Intelligence, delivered a speech as the undergraduate freshman representative.

"Carry forward the spirit of 'worry first, rejoice later,' keep the world in mind, and aim high; explore diligently and serve the country. Uphold the university motto 'Pursuing Perfection and Exploring Truth,' cultivate virtue, broaden knowledge, reflect carefully, discern clearly, and act with integrity. Fulfill the duties of a student, abide by rules and discipline, study hard, practice diligently, and aspire to become talented individuals!" Led by Huo Runze, all freshmen raised their right hands and took a solemn oath.

At the ceremony, Xu Xiaoli, Deputy Party Scretary, announced the "2025 Freshman Military Training Recognition Decision." All leaders presented certificates of honor and awards to outstanding instructors and representatives of excellent organization for the 2025 freshman military training.

Representatives from the War Readiness and Construction Department and the Support Department of the Yueyang Military Sub-district, along with heads of various university functional departments, schools, and the Nanhu College, attended the event.
