Campus News On the afternoon of June 13, the closing ceremony for the Canadian Laval University Chinese Language and Culture Summer Program was held in Conference Room 17118. Liu Changhui, Member of the University Party Committee and Vice President, along with Professor Li Shengwen from the Department of History, Faculty of Arts at Laval University, teachers, volunteers, and host families from our university, gathered with the 25 participants from Laval University. Together, they celebrated the fruitful learning achievements of the past four weeks and marked the successful conclusion of this unforgettable cross-cultural journey.
During the closing ceremony, attending leaders and guests presented certificates of completion to each participant and took group photos to capture this memorable occasion. Many participants expressed that they had gained not only knowledge but also friendships across borders.
At the end of the ceremony, the participants presented their learning outcomes through diverse performances. They skillfully demonstrated Ba Duan Jin, recited Tang poems with growing fluency, and sang the popular Chinese songs "Big Fish" and "Forever Star," showcasing their language proficiency and deep appreciation of the culture. The excellent performances were met with warm applause from the audience.
The International Exchange Office and the School of Chinese Language and Literature meticulously organized and arranged the four-week Chinese Language and Culture Summer Program. The program extended beyond classroom-based language instruction in listening, speaking, and comprehensive Chinese. Participants were also immersed in a wide range of cultural experiences—from calligraphy and traditional Chinese painting classes to the serene art of tea ceremony; from the balanced movements of Ba Duan Jin to a firsthand visit to the revitalized Yueyang Tower. Each activity opened a window for participants to gain deeper insight into Chinese culture. Through the "language learning + cultural experience" model, the program aimed to enhance participants' Chinese proficiency while allowing them to personally experience the richness and depth of Chinese culture.
